About Pastor Charmain
Pastor Charmain Bailey spent most of her adult life as a professional jazz vocalist before transitioning to Ministry. She joined the United Church as a member in 2006 and became quite active as a member of the worship committee of Trinity United in London, Ontario. Discernment pointed Charmain to Diaconal Ministry, and she would begin her journey toward commissioning, a journey she is still on, studying at the Centre for Christian Studies, a United Church of Canada and Anglican seminary located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Charmain transitioned to Windsor in 2005, and in 2018 Charmain was granted a quarter-time appointment to Central United Church. Charmain’s ministry is focused on Social Justice, Pastoral Care, Community Building and Education, and she has been very involved in many community organizations in the city including the Bloomfield House Community Centre in west Windsor. The Ministry she is most passionate about, though is her work at the Downtown Mission since 2015, a mission started by Central United Church in 1974. Charmain serves as a member of the chaplaincy team at the mission, providing worship services, pastoral care, and social advocacy
.
Charmain’s Ministry is steeped in Love, Kindness, Respect, Fairness and Justice, and those themes would define not just her vocation, but her personal life. She understands Jesus Christ through these lenses and works to bring all people to God’s peace, love and hope through that understanding.
Charmain is a single mother to daughter Teala, who continues fills her with wonder, joy and pride day after day.
